My Nutshell

Just in case this insignificant little blog of mine ever makes it into the hands of someone who doesn't know me, I thought I would offer up a little background about myself.

I grew up in a fairly small, very redneck town in South Carolina. When I graduated high school in 2003 I chose not to go off to a 4-year college institution for the single worst reason a person can choose not to go to college. A boy. Of course, that was in May and by July we had broken up. Go me. In a last minute effort to salvage my future, I enrolled in a two year technical college in the next town over. After three semesters, and three changes to my major, I quickly realized that I didn't have the slightest clue what I wanted to study. So I did what any sensible 19 year old would do. I quit. By this time I was working two jobs and that was more than enough stimuli for my simple mind. Soon after I got my own apartment and learned the hard way that life is expensive. So, three months later I moved back home and got a third job.

Not too long after that, in August of 2005, my mom managed to swindle me a job at the local nuclear plant. It was the perfect gig really. It paid way more than my current jobs (combined!), it was steady income (no more waiting tables!), and my mom worked there, too, so I had a free ride to work. Woot! With that, I quit two of my previous jobs (holding on to one of them because I had to best bosses imaginable), and began my journey to a career. Well, sort of.

In November of 2005 I met Jason. The tall, blond, and handsome engineer that worked in my building. We became fast friends and his ambition and aspirations for his future inspired me to go back to school. I re-enrolled in the previously mentioned tech school and made it through 3/4 of the spring semester before realizing that I still didn't have a clue. So, I quit. To fill the void that my lack of future left, I decided to buy a townhouse. I had my big girl panties on with my fancy new job and I wanted to be closer to civilization so I figured why not? Shortly after buying the townhouse Jason and I started dating. Fast-forward, one year and four months, to November 2007 and we were engaged. So naturally, all my time, thoughts, dreams, and conversations were consumed with wedding plans, ideas, and details. In February of 2009 Jason and I got married and had one much too short "honeymoon period" before I went back to school....again. This time I was doing it right. I knew exactly what I wanted to study, where I wanted it to lead me, and I was going to a 4 year college.

So for the next two and a half years I balanced a new marriage, a full time job (that sometimes entailed 60+ hour work weeks), being a full time student, and a very dismal social life. In December of 2011 I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Finance degree. Can we all just pause for a minute and acknowledge that I graduated with a 4.0? It makes me feel special.

Moving on... I tell you all of this to help you better understand why I started this blog. I'm bored. For the first time since I can remember I have one job that requires me to work 40 hours a week and nothing else. I live in the city, two and a half blocks from where I work, so I don't even have to spend time driving. I have a whole lot of free time and nothing to do with it. And so my cheesy blog was born. You're welcome!
